A grand proposal in a small muddy world

“We met seven years ago… today, we got engaged at the Grand Canyon.”

As a rural dating team, we’ve heard of windswept marriage proposals on remote Highland hilltops. We’ve even seen ‘Marry Me?’ spelled out on the hides and sides of livestock, on tractors and in open fields.

Now an agricultural engineer has taken the great outdoors proposal to new heights – quite literally – by popping the question to his muddy match at the Grand Canyon.

Neil met family farmer Louise on Muddy Matches in 2019, and their connection grew steadily, rooted in shared rural lives and a mutual appreciation for mud, machinery, and the outdoors.

“We met seven years ago and have been very happy since,” Neil told us. “Today, we got engaged at the Grand Canyon.”

 As one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders, the Grand Canyon has seen its fair share of proposals. Still, it proved the perfect backdrop for Neil to get down on one knee.

He also hinted that July next year may be the month they tie the knot – though plans remain delightfully up in the air with the excitement of the proposal still so fresh.

Their story started out live on Muddy Matches, but it turns out Neil and Louise’s paths had almost intwined long before they met online.

“Louise is from a farming family and I repair farm machinery, but we’d never crossed paths before, even though Louise had been to my workplace many times and I’d been to her farm to fix a few things.

“What a small world.”

From fixing farm machinery to one of the world’s great natural wonders, we couldn’t be happier for Neil and Louise.
