“If you can survive a milking without an argument, you can
survive anything”

That’s the verdict from dairy worker Charlotte on an early date with her Muddy Matches connection, farrier Will, who she jokingly refers to as her “husband in training”.

The Yorkshire couple met on Muddy Matches in June 2024 and made things official just five weeks later.

You might think a hands-on date in a milking parlour, complete with teat cups and milking machines, would be the standout memorable moment in their muddy love story. But Charlotte, who works across two farms, insists it was their very first date that sealed the deal.

“We went for a meal in a country pub near us, where I made him laugh after getting nervous towards the end of the meal and ordering a baby Guinness. I didn’t realise just how small it was!

“Afterwards, we went for a stroll and talked even more.”

Fast forward two years and the couple have bought a home together, with both choosing to relocate, to start their next chapter, albeit not straying too far from their Yorkshire roots. Now they are building a future that is every bit as busy as rural life tends to be.

“At the moment we’re non-stop. We’re renovating our home, working full-time, doing school runs, have just finished another cricket season, and we’re also working through our business plans and future goals. Thankfully, Will is a ‘jack of all trades’ so there’s not a lot he can’t do.

“Whenever we can, we get out for walks and make the most of our child-free day with a cosy meal together.”

Whilst Will was attracted by Charlotte’s smile, shared interests were one of the first things that caught Charlotte’s attention when browsing Will’s profile. His love of horses, country sports, polo and the outdoors mirrored many of her own passions.

“We love walks, good food, playing cricket and clay pigeon shooting. We just generally enjoy being outside and exploring new places.”

The pair have also enjoyed visiting agricultural shows together, including LAMMA, Driffield Show, Yorkshire Country Fair and the Royal Highland Show.

Like any successful relationship, their journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Building a blended family, saving for a home and balancing busy careers have all required commitment and patience.

“We’ve had to overcome so much over the last few years. I have a child from a previous relationship, so there were the challenges of introductions and building those relationships while establishing our own as a couple.

“Then there was saving for the deposit on our first home while working full-time and making plans for our long-term goals.”

Now settled in their Doncaster home, the couple are looking firmly towards those goals. A woodland wedding is high on their wish list, alongside plans to spend more time horse riding together and making better use of their land.

“Our end goal is to have our own smallholding with livestock, and for me to make cakes and cheese to sell.”

For Charlotte and Will, a giggle over half a Guinness and a connection on Muddy Matches has become a shared home, shared ambitions and a shared future. And if Charlotte’s theory is right, surviving a milking parlour date together is probably a pretty good foundation for whatever comes next.
