Six Second Date Ideas

At Muddy Matches we understand the importance of a first date – the chance to put a real person to the messages and online dating profile and the opportunity to see if there is any chemistry there. So, once you have the first date and its associated first date nerves behind you, it’s time to get creative and have some fun! Why head to a restaurant or pub when there are so many other, interesting things to do on your date? Here are six of our favourite ideas for countryside dates that are fun, active and will help you collect memories as a couple.

1. An outdoor concert

Outdoor concerts make for surprisingly romantic dates, in spite of the hoards of people surrounding you. Think good music, the sun setting, dancing, fresh food and drinks… and you get the idea.

2. Explore a garden

Not just for old people! Getting outside, soaking up the rays (we hope) and exploring a beautiful green space together is a romantic and easy way to get to know each other. The RHS have so many gorgeous gardens listed here.

3. Take a boat trip

Get your sea legs and head to the open seas on a boat trip. There are some incredibly picturesque ferry rides and harbour cruises on offer right on our very own coastline and on our lakes and rivers. Pinpoint your destination, buy your tickets and sail away in to the sunset…. just.so.romantic.

4. Explore a farmer’s market and have a picnic

What could be better than a Saturday morning spent browsing the fresh produce of a farmer’s market, hand-in-hand. Head there with the aim of picking up some local goods for a picnic – think bread, local cheese, fruit, bottle of wine – and don’t forget to pack your picnic bag to enjoy the spoils afterwards. Find your local market on Information Britain here.

5. Mini Golf

An element of competition often brings out a new side… so get to see your date’s true colours with a mini golf date. Bonus points if you’re based by the sea and can sneak in a cheeky ice-cream afterwards.

6. Geocaching

OK, we always advise staying in well-populated areas for dates, especially if it’s a new romance, but there are some incredible geocaches to discover. Take a look at the Geocaching website here and download the app to discover some local to you.
