  1. Memorise their name – Maybe people only forget their date’s name if they’re a character in a McDonald’s advert, but if you’re a little forgetful, make sure that you’ve said it enough times so that it sticks in your memory. Alternatively, try to associate their name with someone else with the same name or with something that sounds similar.
  2. Take the time to re-read their profile – Looking at their profile again will inspire you to ask them questions about their interests, or even what they meant by a particular paragraph.
  3. Exchange contact details – Exchange mobile numbers in advance so that you can call if you are going to be late. If you’re uncomfortable giving out your mobile number, you could use a pay-as-you-go sim in your phone.
  4. Plan your route – Make sure that you know where you are meeting, so that you’re not panicking about losing GPS signal on route. If your first date venue is nearby, you could do a practice run.
  5. Book ahead– If you plan to go to a busy pub, restaurant or cafe, it’s a good idea to book ahead.
  6. Grab some cash – If you need to pay for parking or a tip, it’s handy to have money with you. You can always get change by buying a pack of mints to keep your breath fresh.
  7. Check the mirror – Before leaving the house take one last look in the mirror. If you have smudged makeup, or are coated in pet hair, you can make a last minute adjustment.
  8. Tell a friend where you’re going – If you’re going to meet someone new, always tell a friend where you are going and let them know when you get there and get back.
  9. Enjoy yourself -The most important thing above anything else is to enjoy yourself! So, try to relax and have fun.
  10. Send a thank you – If you enjoyed your date, send a ‘thanks, we should do this again’ follow up message.
