My muddy match said yes in a horse paddock proposal

A tractor-loving agricultural contractor who met his horse-mad muddy match whilst rural dating two years ago, has revealed the country pair are now engaged to be married.

The farmer will soon get his wife, after a marriage proposal knee deep in the horse paddocks.

Tractor man ‘Big’ Ben, who favours a JCB Fastrac 3200, matched with Lincolnshire lass Emma online with Muddy Matches in September 2020. After taking over two weeks to reply to his initial message, they bonded over bailer spare parts, fish tanks, badly fitting horse saddles, and Eastenders in a 19-day messaging marathon.

Emma, the owner of three horses, had been online dating with us for around 10 weeks before Ben made his move and got in touch. She was looking for a good, honest, caring man with a sense of humour’ and, significantly, someone understood the equestrian lifestyle.

With Ben having equally joked about matching someone willing to teach him to horse ride again on his dating profile, it was a good fit. After finding plenty of common ground, including a shared love of cider, the pair agreed to explore their connection offline.

Now Ben has contacted us with an update on how life together in muddy boots is going.

“I met my fiancé on Muddy Matches and we will be getting married in June 2024.” He opens with, eagerly. The pair got engaged in rural setting in October last year when Ben, with help from family, proposed in the horse paddock.

It was a fitting romantic moment; Ben jokes that feeding the horses is the muddiest thing the pair get up to daily.

“I proposed on 22 October. I blindfolded her and took her to her horse paddocks where both families had come out to help to hold up a tablecloth with the question on. One of her two traditional cobs was waiting to hear the answer.”

Emma, of course, said yes.

They’ve come a long way since their first date in October 2020; and Ben has revealed that things may have been very different had it not had been for some gentle encouragement of Emma’s Aunt Sara.

“I was attracted to Emma’s down to earth attitude, and her eyes,” Ben tells us. “But she was persuaded by her aunt to give me a shot. I’m two years younger and was 1hr30 away from her at the time.”

All that’s in the past now though. They are 13 months living together in Holbeach, as attention turns to a rural wedding.  It just goes to show what a little bit of open-mindedness can lead to, especially when rural dating.

For 15 years, Muddy Matches has been trusted as the UK’s original home of rural dating, and the ‘go to’ place to meet, match, date real farmers online.

Attracting over 3/4 million singles from all walks of country life, matching is based upon shared lifestyles, common ground and outlook on life outdoors. Who will you unearth?
