‘It is what it is’: Love Island’s muddy intentions

Tuesday, June 07th, 2022

Reality dating show Love Island (season 8) has returned to our TV screens for the summer, and this year’s line up of singles is already raising a few eyebrows.

We are the first to admit that tuning in to Love Island is not likely the first priority nor preference for the majority of the country singles who choose to online date at Muddy Matches. However, the reality show, for all its questionable moral compass, can inspire a new type of singleton to take a look at Muddy Matches.

They have in past seasons featured a bonafide farmer, singles with genuine rural roots in country life which, given the focus on social media, has sought to put extra spotlight on rural living and single life in remote parts of the country.

Remember the famous ‘there are no fit guys in Devon…’ line from Season 7 which we are more than able to disprove.

This year’s line up of singles includes an international pro dressage rider. Horse lover Gemma, the well publicised daughter of England footballing legend Michael Owen, has already inspired a hike in the number of people searching online for equestrian singles. That’s after just one episode.

Gemma was part of the British squad at the 2021 junior European dressage championships so has proper credentials.

We don’t know what the future will hold for Gemma in the Villa, nor how she will represent the equestrian community. But we do know her appearance will shine a light on horse loving singles.

As the original home of equestrian dating, and with a large number of professional eventing and dressage singles signed up looking for love, Muddy Matches are welcome of this.

In fact, matching over a shared love of life in the saddle or livery yard is one of the most popular country-life interests that form countryside connections on Muddy Matches.

Of the 160 interests and hobbies, singles can add to their profile whilst online dating with Muddy Matches, a passion for horses regularly ranks in the top 3; and it has been far and away the largest topic of choice in the past 12 months.

Matches Matches may focus much more on traditional values, and match people more on background and lifestyle than looks, but as they say on Love Island, you still need to ‘graft’.
