All Creatures Great and Small Christmas Special confirmed – and there’s rural wedding bells in the festive, fresh Darrowby air

All Creatures Great and Small was a runaway success for Channel 5 when the revamped series hit the screens in the Autumn. The, warm, comforting and delightfully shot country life drama attracted millions of weekly viewers, making it the most watched programme on the network this year.

Now, it’s back for a much awaited 2020 Christmas Special and fans can expect the sound of country life wedding bells to ring around the village of Darrowby.

Set to be first broadcast on 22 December (9pm) and repeated in a prime time Boxing Day slot, the All Creatures Great and Small Christmas Special sees childhood sweethearts Helen and Hugh set for a Christmas Day wedding, leaving vet James Herriot nursing a broken heart.

But when it comes to rural romance, farming affairs and matters of the heart, love triangles rarely play out without some twist and turns. Nothing says Christmas telly drama like a Christmas Eve pre-wedding party, thick fog, a call out to a distressed dog in labour and a moral dilemna…

With a second series now confirmed, there will be plenty more space to tell the story – whatever happens.

At Muddy Matches country life dating, we love All Creatures Great and Small and the sensible but charming portrayal it gives to life out in the sticks and on the farm. It has the right level of warmth and feel good factor; perfect for these uncertain times.
