A flock of sheep under a tree

This Sunday (9th June) is Open Farm Sunday and Muddy Matches co-founders Emma and Lucy Reeves will be helping out at their local farm during the event. The Muddy Matches team will also be out enjoying the event and taking lots of photos, which will be uploaded next week.

What is Open Farm Sunday?

Open Farm Sunday is an annual event, which started in 2006 to encourage farmers to open up their farms to the local community for the day. The events are a great way to get to know your local farmer and to find out where your food comes from. It’s also great for farmers to show people how their food is produced and the importance of buying locally.

What goes on at Open Farm Sunday?

Each farm will have a different range of activities, which may include:

  • Hosted farm tours
  • A chance to meet the animals
  • Trailer rides
  • Static machinery displays
  • Self-guided walks
  • Food for sale
  • Pollinator surveys.

Most events offer free entry, although some ask for a small donation for charity and others may charge for certain activities.
