First Date Conversation

Tuesday, June 19th, 2018

When you go on a first date with your new Muddy Match, you will hopefully enjoy getting to know them by asking them lots of questions and listening to what they say. However, it isn’t always easy to think about what to say when you are both nervous. Here’s a guide as what to talk about when conversation doesn’t flow freely.

Choose a stimulating venue

If you find that you struggle to speak to someone new, it can be reassuring to choose a physical date idea, with lots of distractions. For example, if you are bowling, you will have lots of breaks in conversation when you each step up for your turn. You’ll also be able to discuss techniques and how well you are doing.

Choose happy topics

Most people love to speak about their favourite hobbies and interests, so the question – ‘what do you do in your spare time?’ – is a great conversation starter.

It also helps to establish how much you have in common with them, which can add to the feeling of bonding between you.

Interesting places

Speaking about somewhere that you have been to and enjoyed recently will let your date know about you as a person and will show your passions.

Pets

If you are both love animals (check their dating profile for mentions of animals), then speaking about your pets is a positive topic and can lead to funny stories being revealed.

Work

Work is a nice and safe topic that is usual to bring up early in conversation. A simple ‘what do you do for a living?’ can open up a whole topic of conversation.

If you are looking for work at the moment, you can talk about what you have done in the past, or what you are hoping to do.

Family

Family is an interesting topic of conversation as it reveals a lot about how people view relationships.
