How to do Long Distance Dating

Sunday, February 04th, 2018

Online dating websites allow you to talk to a wide range of people, many of whom will not live close to you. As wonderful as it would be to meet someone who is based within walking distance of your home, life doesn’t always happen that way.

So… how do you go about starting and maintaining a relationship with someone who lives far away from you?

Get to know each other via messaging

In most situations, we would advise you to meet up with someone after sending a few messages, as you never know how well you are going to get on until you meet in person. If you will need to travel along way to meet up, it can be costly, so it makes sense to get to know each other better by sending lots of messages to one another. Using a video messaging site (once you are happy to exchange contact details) will allow you to see if you fancy one another and to flirt with one another.

Meet in the middle

On your first date, it is best to meet at a midway point so that one person isn’t put out more than the other. You can use it as a great excuse to visit somewhere new.

Even if you feel like you know each other really well, don’t be tempted to book a hotel room together on your first meeting as it will put too much pressure on you both.

Communication is key

Once you have started dating one another, it is important to continue to keep up the conversation. You can even have Skype dates where you enjoy dinner together (virtually), or watching the same film.

Make plans for the future

If you fall in love with your long-distance match, you will want to find a way to be together more frequently. You will need to discuss the pros and cons of moving to their place, or having your date move closer to where you live.
