If you wrote your dating profile months ago and haven’t made any changes to it since then, now is the time! Making changes to your profile will make your profile appear more prominent in peoples’ searches, as dating websites favour more active members. Also, any new information you add may help to attract new people.

So where should you start?

Check the facts

Take a look through your profile and see if all of your information is up-to-date. Also, take a look through for any errors that you may have made the first time, especially if you have used a phone with an overzealous auto-correct function.

Add some extras

If your profile is only a few lines long, take the time to add more information about what you are like, what you enjoy doing and what you are looking for in a partner. If you really can’t think what to write, take a look at our profile advice, or ask your friends about how they would describe you.

If you have written more than 400 words, you might wish to cut back on the information and see if you get any more responses. It’s great to tell people about who you are, but sadly a lot of people can be put off by long profiles, especially if they are viewing your profile text on a very small screen.

Try the elevator pitch

If you’ve ever watched The Apprentice, or have worked in marketing, you will know that the elevator pitch is a way of selling yourself in a very short period of time.

The elevator pitch is also a great way of catching someone’s attention by focusing your attention onto the first line of your dating profile. Use the first line to sum up who you are, for example, “Horsey lady, who loves cheesy jokes, baking and jogging to counteract the baking”.

Ask a question

Adding a question will make it easier for people to start a conversation with you as they won’t have to worry about what to write.
