coffee and pie

If you’re about to go on a first date with someone, you’ve probably spent a fair bit of time Googling elaborate and different date ideas that will make you appear interesting and imaginative. Although imaginative date ideas will make you stand out from the crowd, nothing beats the simplicity of good old-fashioned date ideas.

Going for a coffee

Meeting up for coffee, or a cup of tea is a popular date idea as it allows you to talk to one another without being somewhere that is so quiet that you feel self-concious. It’s also a safe public place, so your friends and family won’t worry about you meeting up with a stranger.

A cafe date is also affordable, meaning that you won’t have to worry too much about who pays for it.

Last but not least, a coffee date will allow you to leave pretty quickly if you don’t click and will allow you to stay for more if you are really enjoying yourself (although it’s probably best to switch to decaf if you’re on to your fifth cup).

Meeting at the pub

Meeting at the pub shares many of the same qualities as meeting at a cafe – it’s a public place, it’s affordable and you can have a chat. However, you’re also likely to find either a selection of board games, or pub games like pool and darts, which help to break the ice. Just don’t snuggle up by the fire with a book on your first date no matter how tempting it is.

Dinner date

A dinner date is less flexible than the other options and more expensive, but it does show that you are keen on someone and that you’re willing to spend both time and money getting to know them better.

A candlelit dinner is also seen as a romantic option, which is always a plus if you feel like you have really connected through messages, or on the phone before you meet up.
