It may seem like everyone you know is in a happy relationship and that they are enjoying the trappings that come with being part of a couple.

It’s easy to look enviously at photos of couple’s holidays, date nights or weekends spent with their families and to think that you’d like to be in that situation. However, it’s important not to try and rush into being a couple without taking the time to get to know each other first.

Here are some things that shouldn’t rush into…

Spending all your time together

When you really like someone, it’s understandable that you’ll want to spend lots of your free time together. However, it can be stifling if you spend every spare minute with someone and don’t take time to see your friends and family. On that note…

Meeting the family too quickly

It’s great that you’re keen to show off your new date to your friends and family, but introducing him or her to your friends and family can be a nerve-racking experience

Make sure that you know where you are in your relationship before introducing your new date to your loved ones.

When the right time comes, it’s also a good idea to stagger things so that your date doesn’t become overwhelmed by meeting everyone at a family wedding or party.

Planning your future together

Even if you are both keen to meet someone and to settle down, it doesn’t mean that you should start planning your whole life together as soon as you meet. Spend time in the moment and enjoy the early weeks of your relationship as they come. There’s plenty of time to plan what you want from your life, without rushing towards marriage or babies.
