Things You Should Never do on a Date

When you’re on a first date with someone, it’s always best to play err on the side of caution when it to how you behave. Manners are very important and should be adhered to on a first date, so here are a few pointers to help…

Don’t keep changing the date

If you’ve agreed on a time and date for you to meet up, try to stick to that time if at all possible. Rearranging a date, or cancelling altogether is very rude unless it can’t be helped.

Don’t be late

While we’re on the topic of keeping your promises, make sure that you leave enough time to get to your meeting point. If you are running late, make sure that you get in touch with them so that they aren’t standing around wondering if they have been stood up!

Don’t check your phone constantly

We live in a communication obsessed society and it’s not unusual to see people glued to their phones while in conversation with their friends. When you’re on a date, put your phone away unless you are an on-call doctor, or expecting an equally important phone call.

Don’t moan about your ex

As much as you might think that it’s flattering for you to tell your date how much better they are than your ex, it’s just off-putting to hear about your former partner. It can also make them think that you are prone to bad-mouthing people.

Don’t get drunk

A few drinks can help you to relax, but if you end up being drunk you can make a fool of yourself and your new date.

Don’t get too touchy-feely

A kiss on the cheek when you meet, or a hug can be a nice way to greet one another, but don’t lunge in for a snog before you get to know one another. It’s also a good idea to avoid talking about anything too sexual at first, as it can be embarrassing.
