When it comes to meeting up with someone for your first date, it is conventional to swap contact details in advance. When exchanging details, think about how much you wish to give away and how to protect your personal details.

Should I set up an email address for online dating? – Yes, it’s a great idea to set up a separate email account for online dating.

However, if you don’t fancy setting up a new email account, just make sure that you don’t use an email address that is connected to your work, or one that is that is connected to other details about you online.

Giving out your phone number – Never give out your landline number to someone who you don’t know in person. A landline can be traced back to a home address and it can be quite a kerfuffle to change.

If you feel happy to exchange contact details with someone you may wish to exchange mobile phone numbers.

Alternatively, you may wish to have a SIM card specifically for online dating.

Never give out your home address – If your date is driving through your village/town/city to get to where you are meeting, it may seem like a good idea to share a lift, but it is important to consider your safety first!

Do not worry about appearing rude, people will understand that your safety comes first!
