How to Write a Unique Dating Profile

Sunday, April 15th, 2018

You are unique, so your dating profile text should be unique too.

Here are some tips to make sure that your profile text represents who you are and couldn’t be describing just about anyone else.

Avoid cliché phrases

There are certain phrases that appear time and time again. Here are just a selection of some that should be avoided:

  • “I’m looking for my partner in crime”
  • “I never thought I’d join an online dating website”
  • “We’ll tell people that we met at a party”
  • “I like long walks on the beach”
  • “I like going out and staying in”

Talk about your hobbies and interests

When you mention your hobbies, try to be specific. For example, instead of saying that you enjoy going for walks, tell them what you enjoy about going for walks. Do you enjoy hill-walking, coastal walks, group walks, or geo-caching? Do you make sure that you get out at least once a week?

Do you have a nickname?

Nicknames can reveal a lot about someone, so if it’s clean and not too embarrassing, let people know what it is.

The story behind your nickname will also help you to tell a unique story.

Describe your perfect first date

Talking about your ideal first date will tell people more about who you are and what you are looking for in a perfect partner.

Talk about something that you’ve enjoyed recently

You can update your profile on a regular basis by talking about something that you have enjoyed recently, like a concert, or a show. Adding details like this will give people something that they can mention when they send you a message. For example they can say that they’ve been to the same event, or that they are keen to go too.

Ask your friends for help

If you’re struggling to think about what to write, try asking a friend about what you can write about yourself.
