I Give up!

Sunday, October 01st, 2017

There are people who join online dating websites and find their special someone within hours of joining, but for the majority of people, it takes months before they find a suitable match.

Here’s what you can do instead of giving up!

Be realistic

If you have been single for a while, online dating will not be a miracle cure that will instantly find you love. It can take time, so be kind to yourself and don’t beat yourself up if you don’t find someone straight away.

Take a mini-break

A break from online dating will help to renew your interest in the whole process. Doing the same thing over and over again can be tiring and you’ll start to see the same profiles over and over again. Take a break by hiding your profile to come back to it later.

Update your profile

If you haven’t made any changes to your profile since you first joined the dating website, now is the time to do it. The ideal length for a dating profile is between 200 and 400 words. This will give you the space to tell people about who you are and what you enjoy doing, without giving away your life history.

Add a new photo to your profile

It’s amazing how different one person can look in different photos. Try swapping your Main Photo for a different photograph of yourself — just make sure that it clearly shows your head and shoulders.

By changing your photo, you might attract the attention of new people and adding extra additional photos will tell them more about you.

Organise your searches

Saving different search terms will stop you from having to carry out lots of manual searches online. Have one simple search e.g. ‘men aged 20-35 in Bedfordshire’ and one more detailed search e.g. ‘men aged 20-35 in Bedfordshire who work in agriculture’.

You can then log in to your account and see what your search criteria brings up.

It’s also a good idea to check out any profiles that are ‘new members’.
