It’s nearly springtime, so get ready to shed your winter coat and grab your raincoat for the longer days and lots of springtime dates.

First Date

Lambing day – You may associate going to see lambing with taking the kids on a day out or even with work if you’re a sheep farmer. However, visiting a local farm to see all the newborn lambs can also be a lovely spring date too. As an added bonus, it’s a suitable date for bad weather as the lambs are kept indoors. Just remember to be prepared for lots of ‘ahhing’.

Botanical gardens – There’s nothing like a giant greenhouse to make the most of the first slightly sunny days of the year. Enjoy looking at the exotic plants, before heading for tea and cake. Botanical gardens are often park of university campuses and are easy to find by searching online.

Literary festival – If you’re a fan of modern literature, we have listed some of the literary festivals going on around the country on our news page.

Getting to know each other

Look to the skies – It seems that every time anything happens in the world of astronomy it suddenly becomes foggy or snowy, but if we’re lucky enough to have clear skies, there are lots of exiting occurrences this spring from the Comet Pan-STARRS on 12th March to the Lyrid meteor shower on 22nd April. Take a look at astronomical-calendar.org.uk to find out what’s happening, grab some binoculars and revel at the beauty of nature together. Remember that an outdoor date, such as this would not be suitable for a first date, as we recommend that you meet in a busy public place for a first date.

Flower walks – Early spring is a great time to see all the beautiful flowers appearing, and many woodlands have specific daffodil trails, snowdrop trails and tulip trails for you to explore at your own pace with your date.

Farmers’ market – Farmers’ markets are a great way to support your local community and you can usually try before you buy too. Take you date around the farmers’ market, before heading home to cook up a fantastically fresh meal together.
