Woo hoo, the sun is shining (for today at least). What better excuse is there to grab a picnic blanket and head outside for a romantic date?

Here are a few of our ideas for pulling off the perfect picnic:

The quickie picnic

Suitable for: spontaneous types

Get your heads out of the gutter- I’m talking about the kind of picnic that you can throw together in five minutes so that you can run outside before the sun goes in. Head out to your local shop for ready-made pies, quiches, potato salad and scotch eggs.

The posh picnic

Suitable for: sophisticated types

For the posh picnic it’s time to channel our continental cousins- think fine cheeses, breads, meats, olives and crudities, washed down with champagne.

If you’re feeling a bit lazy, but still fancy some good quality food, try a posh picnic hamper:

The British picnic

Suitable for: fans of local produce

For a traditional British picnic pack cucumber sandwiches, carrot sticks, sausage rolls, Cornish pasties, scones, lashings of ginger beer and of course strawberries and cream for dessert.

For our members in the Emerald Isle- substitute the Cornish pasty for a beef hand pie.

The rock the salad bar picnic

Suitable for: those trying to reach their 5-a-day

Salads are fantastic for picnics and don’t have to be just lettuce, cucumber and tomato.  Why not try Waldolf salad, celeriac remoulade, chicken Caesar salad or tabouleh for something a bit different?  To finish the ultimate salad picnic the only option would have to be fruit salad if you’re not craving something naughty like cake at this point.

Whatever type of picnic you go for enjoy the sun, be safe and send us your recipes!
